Abstract

In the following pages, I will discuss, in the first place, the generalised questioning of humanistic disciplines within capitalist societies and the resulting crisis of legitimisation that compulsory music education continuously faces. Taking as a starting point a Critical Pedagogy-type of positioning, I will propose a form of music education that looks for empowering the student and through this, the transformation of their community. To conclude, I will propose a rethinking of the teaching of this discipline in schools through a reformulation of the curriculum objectives, methodologies and contents.
