Abstract

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of the care bundle (CB) methodology in the prevention of hospital-acquired pressure injuries (HAPI) in adult patients hospitalized at the University Care Complex of Burgos. To quantify the variation in the prevalence of LPPAH after the application of CB. To quantify the acquisition of knowledge on pressure injury (PI) prevention by nursing staff. Methodology: Quasi-experimental pre-post intervention study. The intervention was the implementation of a CB prevention of PI, obtaining the data through direct inspection of the patients and review of the electronic health record. The main efficacy variable of the intervention was the overall prevalence of HAPI. Results: A reduction in the prevalence of HAPI of 74.1% was obtained. Knowledge about PI prevention, measured using the Pressure Injury Prevention Knowledge test, increased by 10%. The application of the assessment of the risk of suffering from PI using the Braden scale increased by 19.36%. Conclusions: The implementation of a CB for the prevention of HAPI in hospitalized adults proves to be effective in reducing its prevalence and the severity of the injuries. The PI prevention training program increases the knowledge of Nursing staff. Another effect of the implementation of the CB is the increase in assessments of the risk of suffering from PI using the Braden scale.
