Resumo

The current agriculture practices in Colombia involve the extensive use of chemical fertilizers with high market prices geopardizing the financial success of Colombian farmers and consumers. As an alternative to their use two processes has been assessed from the techno-economic and environmental points of view to produce biofertilizers (biol and biosol) and growth plant promoters (GA3) from different agroindustrial residues found in Colombia (sugarcane bagasse, oil palm empty fruit bunches, coffee husk and orange peel) and Spain (olive tree pruning). The production processes were evaluated as stand-alone processes considering low and high-scale processing capacities to evaluate economic performance with respect to the raw material availability. Moreover, biofertilizers and GA3 production was evaluated as a biorefinery concept, concluding that this integrated production approach improve the economic and environmental performance of the studied processes
