The shortage of health professionals, including midwives, is a real problem due, among other factors, to job insecurity and difficult living conditions in some contexts. The objective of this study is to identify and analyze the perceptions and motivations of midwives in rural and remote areas of northern Morocco regarding the quality of their working life and the empowerment strategies they use to maintain and develop their work in this environment. It is a qualitative study according to Van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenology approach. Fifteen midwives from rural and remote areas of northern Morocco participated in three focus groups and fifteen in-depth interviews. The results indicate that midwives in rural and remote areas of northern Morocco have a negative perception of the quality of work and personal life. It is necessary to promote intersectoral policies that improve the labor and personal conditions of midwives.
