Abstract

The importance of leadership and management in education provides the basic elements for building and participating in education. These, based on standardized statistical measurements, promote and guarantee an analysis and pertinent actions to adopt, adapt and apply strategies that favor the educational process within institutions. The present research work sought to establish the relationship between the variable leadership style of the Principals of the official educational institutions of Villavicencio and the Synthetic Index of Educational Quality (ISCE). For this, a study was carried out with 37 Principals of the municipality of Villavicencio to assess their leadership style using the OECD THALYS Survey as an instrument. After analyzing the data, it was concluded that the school organization constitutes a network of relationships of various interdependent elements that are not far from the patterns of the general organizations of society, for which an adequate organizational climate for achievement of the objectives of the work being carried out must be fostered. This led to support the construct that the actions of leaders consist essentially of committing and executing practices that promote the development of teachers' motivations, their professional skills and abilities, and the working conditions in which they carry out their work, leading to the Principal of an institution as the main axis of the system to develop plans that, in addition to following guidelines from the teaching profession, must be adapted to the environment where it is located.
