Abstract

The purpose of the research study presented herein is the incorporation and valorization of distinct industrial and agro-industrial wastes to obtain and characterize both ceramic materials and geopolymer cementitious materials. Among the wastes here investigated are biomass fly ash and biomass bottom ash from the olive grove, rice husk ash, bauxite residue generated during the processing of bauxite into alumina using the Bayer process, and aluminum filter dust produced during the aluminum recycling process. This idea arises due to the environmental problems that the proper management of industrial and agro-industrial waste implies. The results obtained in the present study uncover a potential novel use of these wastes for the manufacture of geopolymer materials and conventional brick, and the potential economic and environmental benefits derived from the valorization these wastes.
