El diseño de perfiles algorítmicos para la gestión y protección de fronteras europeas: ¿una nueva forma de discriminación?

Abstract

This study is based on the analysis of the large IT systems or databases, responsible for collecting information on travelers –regular and irregular– entering or leaving the European Union. These systems collect more and more information and, although EU regulation establish how this data should be treated, there are still some risks of violation of established legal principles, such as equality and non-discrimination. So in this paper, we will focus on how these increasingly advanced computer programs perceive travelers and how, through the use of the information collected and its treatment through statistical algorithms, they can classify them as a possible risk for order, safety and public health.
