Resumen

The competency-based learning builds on the achievement of the desired learning outcomes by the student. It involves an ongoing process, with both measurable advances and an autonomous progress. Here we present a strategy designed for Masters students in Engineering. They must demonstrate competences on using and applying practical issues, even to the professional situations. The strategy encompasses a flipped learning technique with the teamwork method, with the aim to make classroom presentations. In this way, the classmates can raise queries, criticisms or even assess the quality of others’ works, supervised by the instructor. A sample case on Earthquake Engineering is presented hereby. The results from end-ofsemester surveys have shown that both students’ satisfaction and learning outcomes overshoot those of classical classroom sessions.
