Resumen

Upper Oligocene-Lower Miocene calcarenites and limestones showing an angular unconformity in relation with the underlying Mesozoic rocks in the Subbetic Zone to the south of Jaén are studied. They appear in three main outcrops displaying a basic stacking pattern consisting of vertical aggradation, progradation and offlaping (downstepping). Their lithology and microfacies are described and they are interpreted sedimentologicaly as calcarenitic bodies deposited in small carbonate ramps developed in the Sudiberic Margin during the climatic optimum of the Chattian-Aquitanian and corresponding to a global 2nd-order highstand or supercycle of relative sea level.
