Resum

The aim of the present study was to determine the incidence of biocide tolerance and antibiotic resistance in bacterial isolates from dairy environments and eggshells. A collection of 120 bacterial isolates was obtained from small-medium enterprises involved in milk and goat cheese production. Presumptive Salmonella and E. coli isolates from eggs were also isolated. All isolates were tested for biocide tolerance and antibiotic resistance. Selected isolates were identified at molecular level, and investigated for the presence of biocide and antibiotic resistance genes. Several strains were biocide tolerant and antibiotic resistance, and carried resistance genes. Some E. coli strains were presumptive toxin producers. The results indicate that exposure to biocides facilitates co-selection of antibiotic resistance.
