Résumé

Intertextual study (or, according with the terminology used, transtextual) of the presence of Spanish texts, elements of culture, and society James Shirley We start by delimiting the corpus of study and equipping ourselves with a suitable and operative methodology, based on the five-fold distinction by Genette (paratext, metatext, intertext, hypertext, and architext). Then we add the further category of sociotext and proceed to analyze Shirley’s dramatic corpus, showing the possible presence of paratextual conventions, intertextual elements and the absence of metatextual (critical) references. At the hypertextual level, the traditionally so-called relationships of “influence” are revised, confirming some of them, ruling out others and proposing two new ones. In the sociotextual domain, there is a thorough compilation of all the mentions to Spansih elements be they linguistic, of material culture, etc., proposing a general hypotheis about their scope and functionality.
