Abstract

The development of a circular economy based on the use of lignocellulosic wastes generated during agri-food activities has two main advantages. The first one is the reduction of non-renewable fossil resource reliance. Moreover, this approach provides a sustainable management of these lignocellulosic wastes. The evaluation of strategies to process raw materials in a more efficient way, increase the production of high added value sub products and reduce the generation of waste materials within energy/fuel biorefineries is the main focus of this work. The present PhD Thesis includes the study of the chemical composition and structure of different technical lignins obtained from the black liquors generated in the pulping processes during the production of cellulosic pulp.
