Asociación de la actividad física con aplicaciones móviles y redes en jóvenes de 10 a 16 años

Resumo

The aim of the present study was to analyze the association between weekly physical activity (PA) practice and the time spent using social networking applications via cell phone. A total of 756 Spanish students (47.35% girls) aged 10-16 years (13.23 ± 1.77) from seven schools in the autonomous community of Andalusia (Spain) participated. Differences were carried out between low and high weekly PA (< 2h vs. ≥4h/week) in each of the analyzed social networks. Comparison of continuous and categorical variables was carried out using Student's t-tests and χ2 tests, respectively. The association between variables was performed by analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). This analysis was adjusted for age and body mass index. The results showed that adolescents with low levels of PA spent more time on apps such as WhatsApp (p=0.04), YouTube (p=0.002) and search engines (Google, safari) (p=0.013), while those with high levels of PA used online shopping apps more(p=0.009). No significant differences were found in the use of TikTok, Instagram, Be Real, Twitter and Spotify (all p>0.05). It is suggested to promote a balanced use of digital technologies and encourage regular PA to improve the health and well-being of young people. It is considered crucial to implement educational and awareness strategies to help adolescents better manage the time spent on social networks, ensuring a balanced and healthy use.
