Resumo

Depression is the new epidemic of the 21st century, being a disease with a prevalence that increases every year worldwide. In turn, society promotes the pursuit of well-being. Positive Psychology suggests that people who reflect higher levels of certain psychological strengths will suffer less from the negative effect of daily stressors, will have a higher level of well-being, and will be able to avoid the appearance of psychological problems, such as depressive symptoms. The main objective of this Thesis consisted of knowing and testing the effectiveness of interventions based on Positive Psychology to reduce depressive symptoms and increase the subjective and/or psychological well-being of the elderly. To achieve this, three different studies were carried out. The results conclude that interventions based on Positive Psychology are effective in reducing depressive symptoms and increasing subjective and/or psychological well-being in older people.
