Abstract

The present Doctoral Thesis deeply examines the alkaline activation of industrial residues and by- products for the production of more sustainable and efficient cements. The main objective of this Doctoral Thesis is to valorize various residues and by-products from different industries, such as the construction industry (construction and demolition waste and brick dust or chamotte), the agricultural industry (rice husk ash), the wastewater treatment industry (ash from urban wastewater sludge and ash from industrial wastewater sludge in oil and fat refining), and the food industry (exhausted diatomaceous earth from beer industry filtration), by using them as precursor materials in the production of alkali-activated cements. This alkaline activation technology promotes the circular economy by enabling the conversion of many industrial residues and by- products into precursors, thus enhancing the sustainability of products and processes while adding new value to their lifecycle.
