Resumo

The aim of this dissertation is to obtain advances in the representation and fracture of bone models from a macroscopic and microscopic perspective. Most of the literature is based on the study from a macroscopic point of view, ignoring the influence of bone structures which are part of the bone at the smallest scales and are fundamental in all the phenomena that occur regarding bones. The thesis presents an exhaustive analysis of the literature in order to identify the best techniques to represent bone at macroscale, and proposes new techniques for the representation of bone at microscale as well as new techniques for bone fracturing at different scales. The results obtained will enable us to progress in the studies on macroscopic bone fracturing, by a combination of the most important approaches for bone fracturing, as well as in the simulations at the microscopic level through the proposed representation model.
