Epidemiología de los traumatismos ortopédicos en durante las diferentes fases del confinamiento de COVID-19 en Andalucia

Résumé
Purpose. The aim of this study is to describe the change in epidemiology of orthopaedic trauma injuries attended in a tertiary hospital, during every phase of COVID-19 lockdown. Methods. Adult patients attended for orthopaedic injuries in our Centre by the orthopaedic team from March 15th to May 17th 2020 were selected. Clinical and demographic data were recorded. The same data were recorded for the same dates in the previous year (2019). The period was divided in 5 phases (levels of lockdown). Data were compared between years and between every lockdown period. Results. There was a 36.14% reduction in the total number of patients attended by the orthopaedic trauma team during the total lockdown period. The number of fragility hip fractures requiring admission remained similar to 2019, but upper limb lesions were markedly diminished (p=0.029). Cases admitted to hospital were also lower during the most severe lockdown periods (p=0.006). Conclusion. The implementation of confinement measures is associated with a reduction in the incidence of all orthopaedic injuries, more in upper limb. However, there was no change in hip fractures.
