Abstract

The European Union is encouraging companies towards more sustainable production models, based on the Circular Economy, with the main objective of reducing the carbon footprint. The defense industry must adapt quickly to these new production models. To apply this circular economy model, we identified seven dimensions: principles of the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and ecodesign, materials management, energy efficiency, water and biodiversity management, waste management, emissions reduction and strategy. To put this model into practice, we analyzed the sustainability reports published by the main companies in the European defense industry, searching and classifying the actions and practices of these companies related to the Circular Economy. This analysis provides a comprehensive overview of ongoing initiatives in the sector, while setting an example for other companies interested in embarking on this transition towards the circular economy
