Abstract

This study evaluates the sustainability of manufacturing innovative ceramic products for the construction sector, through a life cycle analysis comparison with traditional systems: bricks and artificial lightweight aggregates. A variety of clays and mixtures were used incorporating additives from industrial waste that can be revalued through the Circular Economy, such as olive pomace ("alpeorujo"), nut shells, paper money purification sludge, cork dust, coffee grounds and mineral wool. Waste recycling is a key element in mitigating the environmental problems that threaten our society. The substitution of raw materials for these wastes would not only reduce the impact of the extraction phase or the disposal of the waste, but would also reduce the emissions associated with the manufacture of energy-intensive products, without negatively affecting the technological properties of the final material.
