Abstract

There is a growing literature on the effectiveness of animal assisted interventions on the social- communicative functioning in autism spectrum disorder, but the mechanisms underlying these results are not yet well known. This paper suggests that the visual processing advantages of animal faces (dogs) in autism over other stimuli, using for this an eye tracker, could underlie the effectiveness of animal-assisted interventions in this group
