Abstract

This study analyzes for the first time different profiles of child-to-parent violence (CPV) aggressors. The main objective was to determine the existence of the victimized aggressor profile and the specialist versus generalist aggressor profile by analyzing the proportion of aggressors in each profile and examining the pattern of CPV and the distinctive individual and family characteristics of these aggressors. The results confirm the existence of both profiles. Specifically, there is a considerable proportion of aggressors with victimization and polyvictimization experiences, with polyvictimized aggressors showing more CPV and worse individual and family adjustment compared to aggressors without polyvictimization and without victimization experiences. There is also a considerable proportion of aggressors only in the family setting (specialists), and of aggressors in settings other in addition to the family (generalists), with the generalists showing more CPV and worse individual and family adjustment than the specialists.
