Abstract

The experimental approach of the intensive archaeological survey proposal has allowed for the reconstruction of the ancient history of the region of El Condado (Jaén), from the early moments of human presence to the Late Antiquity. The analysis of the sequence of occupation of the territory enables the diachronic study of different social formations, with special attention to the Roman period. The implementation of the Roman city model and the process of municipalization during the Early Empire are observed through the study of material culture, particularly the ceramic assemblages that provide well-contextualized surface records. This knowledge strategy has been developed within the framework of Public Archaeology, in community, with the help and collaboration of citizens, coordinated through the local governments and the Rural Development Association of the El Condado region, acting as promoters and observers of this research.
