This paper discusses the treatment of linguistic communication skills, both oral and written, in the Degree in Biology at the University of Jaén, as an essential skill for the academic and personal development of students. The analysis of the 51 teaching guides of this degree will allow us to know the communicative skills that are worked on during the initial training in order to determine the teacher’s beliefs in relation to the importance that these skills should have in their subject. It will also enable us to analyse the main methodological lines and resources implemented in the classroom for their development. Trough results, we will test the hypothesis that communication skills take a backseat to other priorities in the scientific field. From a methodological perspective, the analysis of the corpus will be carried out using both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Initially, the ATLAS.ti software will be utilized to quantify the frequency of references to oral and written communication skills within the primary sections of the degree programme guides. Subsequently, a qualitative examination will be conducted after obtaining the results. This will enable us to evaluate both the positive and negative aspects of this curriculum, thus facilitating the implementation of measures for enhancement
