Resumen

Currently, universities must give back to society what they receive from it. To achieve this, new teaching methodologies are needed that involve students in an active and critical role in response to social needs. Service Learning (ApS) isa strategy that combines theory and practice through the provision of services to the community. The article presents the results of an experience with first yearPrimary Education students, in the General Didactics subject, providing services to vulnerable and lonely populations due to covid-19 confinement. The objective was to develop a support strategy for older people who were alone through telephone calls. The analysis of the data obtained throughout the process shows a panorama that illustrates the richness, diversity, and creativity of the different actions taken and, on the other hand, highlights the positive impacts produced on all participants. The results of the study emphasize the personal perception that the use of this methodology makes the university a more open institution that interacts with the community and expands its field of education to provide a social transformation service beyond technical and scientific knowledge.
