The distinctive feature of Unaccompanied Migrant Children (UMC) is that they live the migration experience alone, without family members or reference adults as travelling companions. In Italy, the literature on the subject is mainly of a statistical and legislative nature, and does not deal much with the phenomenon in relation to dynamic dimensions such as identity and future planning. This paper aims to identify the conditions that favour the inclusion of UMC in Italy and, in particular, in the city of Agrigento, as a consequence of its geographical location. The implementation of the SAAMA project demonstrates the potential of similar actions to turn UMC into protagonists in the construction of their desired future and, at the same time, to ensure that Agrigento ceases to be an obligatory transitory stage of the migratory route and, on the contrary, becomes a conscious destination of a chosen and shared planning.
