We reflect over recent experiences of participation in the elections for "consejos escolares" in schools. We analyse the role of the community and its assumption of responsibility in the organization and management of schools, their limits and possibilities. We start by reflecting on theoretical and legal bases affecting participation when it comes to making decisions about school matters. We finally comment upon what has happened in the province of Jaen over the recent years.
