Resumo

The present work develops a methodology for crack tip fields characterization on non-planar surfaces. This approach combines 3D digital image correlation along with an extended formulation of flat classical crack tip field models based on differential geometry. That methodology has been validated using hollow thin-walled cylindrical specimens containing a through-thickness circumferential notch. Two materials were employed, an austenitic stainless steel (SS304L) and an aluminium alloy (AA2024T3). Results in terms of KI show a high level of agreement with numerical and theoretical values (<5%). In addition, a high level of agreement between experimental and fitted theoretical fields was found (<0.5%)
