Abstract

Although the path that terminology has followed stems from the same origins as computing, the recent emergence of applications based on artificial intelligence has popularized many old etyma while projecting new words that we may be hearing more about in the near future, some of which are still Anglicisms lacking an accepted translation into Catalan. In this short article, we will travel from the centuries-old tradition of quantitative linguistics, the sub-discipline of linguistics that studies language and communication systems from a mathematical perspective to current artificial intelligence, popularized by recent advances in generative applications of text and images, which have crystallized into very versatile and effective software tools, posing a veritable social challenge, especially in education. We will do this by tracing a series of words and definitions that have by now either entered or are knocking on the door of our mental and official dictionaries.
