Resum

This work defines some mechanisms involved in canopy-recruit interactions between plants and in community assembly of Mediterranean mixed forests of pines and oaks. First, several traits of canopy and recruit species are able to determine the some aspects of recruitment, but complementarity between traits does not affect these interactions. Second, these interacctions are conditioned by other mechanisms, such as seed dispersal and infection by fungal pathogens. Specifically, both mechanisms condition the spatial structure of recruits, leaving a spatial legacy that remains in the spatial structure of canopy plants. At phylogenetic levels, this spatial legacy showed a transition from phylogenetic overdispersion in recruits, to phylogenetic clustering in adult plants. Thus, this pattern is linked to ecological mechanisms that change across plant ontogeny, similar to the results obtained in previous works.
