Abstract

In the last decade there has been a growing interest in the use of new technologies in the health field. Virtual reality-based therapy (VBRT) represents a new therapeutic approach for motor, sensory and psychocognitive disorders in patients with neurological pathology or chronic pain. The objective of this Doctoral Thesis is to compile the scientific evidence available to analyze the effectiveness of different VRBT modalities in neurologically-based pathologies and chronic course (multiple sclerosis [MS], fibromyalgia syndrome [FMS], among others). To do this, four systematic reviews with meta-analyses are carried out that show the effectiveness of VRBT on improving the motor function of the upper limb in central nervous system diseases; on fatigue, quality of life and balance in patients with MS; and on impact, pain, fatigue, anxiety, depression, balance, aerobic capacity and quality of life in women with FMS.
