Abstract

This paper studies Miguel de Unamuno's Diario íntimo (ca. 1897) as a major work that asseses the author's ontological feeling after one of the most decisive moments in his life course, the religious crisis of 1897. This sentiment contains the keys to his philosophy, which continued to develop throughout his later literary production. Thus, the trace of the Diario íntimo can be traced in works of various kinds, as this study attempts to show, highlighting the links with part of his essay production, through Del sentimiento trágico de la vida (1912) and La agonía del cristianismo (1925); poetic with El cristo de Velázquez (1920); novelistic, for which we take as an example San Manuel Bueno y mártir (1931); and even dramatic, as shown by his works La esfinge (1898) and La venda (1899).
