Abstract

The "culebrilla" is a viral infection of the nervous system that it is characterized by a very painful eruption in the skin. After suffering the chicken pox, some viral particles can remain latent in the nervous system and in the future to produce the herpes-zoster (known popularly as "culebrilla"). Together with the medical treatment based on retrovirals, this illness is also treated by the folk healers of our towns and cities. In the medical and nurse bibliography we find diverse studies on this topic, contained under the terms of "curanderos", "curanderismo" or "folk healers." With our informant's testimony we seek to come closer to the experiences of a healer that doesn't exercise of continuous way, neither professional way, but in a more intimate or more family context, and for a very concrete illness that is the culebrilla.
