Abstract
In recent years, a strong research trend is emerging to improve people's health through the use of small electronic devices, equipped with sensors, which can be connected to each other, and which can collect relevant data from the person. This doctoral thesis proposes the integration of these wearable devices in systems that perform intelligent processing using fuzzy logic to carry out continuous monitoring of a relevant health indicator. The research proposes and evaluates two intelligent systems in the context of health that integrate information generated by wearable devices with sensors. Firstly, a smart system to monitor hyperactive behaviour in adolescents through activity bracelets is proposed and evaluated and, secondly, a smart system to monitor the indoor location of elderly people using mobile/wearable devices and Bluetooth Low Energy beacons deployed in an environment is proposed and evaluated.
