Resumen

Since the middle of the last century, we have been observing significant demographic changes, with a progressive tendency towards the aging of the population, survival is a present aspect of the time in which we live and of a new social composition. Therefore, a systematic review was carried out with the aim of analyzing the benefits of physical activity on the elderly and their quality of life. A scientific search was carried out in the Web of Science, including only publicationsfrom thelast fiveyears with the highest impact index. A tenfold increasein the number ofarticles and reviews was analyzed to finally include fifteen articles. The results made it clear that physical activity in older people provides numerous physical and psychological health benefits. It was also demonstrated that active older people show a decrease in depressive symptoms and improve self-sufficiency, i.e., a healthier life.
