Abstract
The paleontological site of Quibas (Abanilla, Murcia), with an estimated age between 1.1 and 0.9 Ma (Early Pleistocene), is revealed as the !rst continuous pre-Jaramillo to Jaramillo terrestrial vertebrate succession from Europe. #is outcrop is composed of two structures: Quibas-Sima (divided into units QS-1 to QS-7) and QuibasCueva (QC-1 to QC-6). In this work, the mineralogical composition of the sediments forming the stratigraphic units of both structures is analyzed in order to study the relationship between them. #e consistency of the di'erent units established by macroscopic observations is also evaluated. Finally, the possible paleoclimatic implications along the Quibas-Sima sequence are discussed.
