This volume, "Stand-alone Verses of Miserere mei, Deus for One and Two Voices" includes nine works by Ignacio Jerusalem based upon verses of the eponymous penitential psalm. Exquisite in detail, these attractive, aria-like pieces take a leisurely approach to the Latin text, ornamenting important words and interspersing the vocal sections with instrumental passages. A highlight of the collection is Jerusalem’s recently identified Ecce enim veritatem with obbligato violin and cello parts, a piece that contains the most advanced duet writing for violin and cello known in the colonial repertoire. Each of these pieces can be performed independently, or grouped together as desired.
