Abstract

This doctoral thesis analyzes the way in which the journalistic image influences as a strategy of intercultural education in university students of the Design and Journalism careers of the University of Playa Ancha of Chile, counting for it, with a sample of 110 students, being all students of first and fourth year of these careers respectively. Using quantitative methodology and a quasi-experimental method, a test composed of four items (47 questions) was applied to all the students, then a photographic impact was applied to the control group and finally the same initial test was applied but now called postest to all students again. The statistical results showed that in all dimensions, both racist, religious, cultural and economic, there was a significant increase in cultural values and in the increase of tolerance towards cultural and intercultural diversity. Therefore, the effectiveness of the use of journalistic photography in university students is demonstrated, when it is wanted to achieve greater cultural inclusion and a reduction of racist, xenophobic and cultural prejudices in young students, future professionals.
