Abstract

The Conceptionist monastery of Jaén has a rich textile heritage which can be divided into two categories. The first consists of a collection of liturgical vestments with rich decoration from the eighteenth century. To this same century belong most of the fabrics that cover some of the sculptures treasured in the monastery (known as “Las Bernardas”), works which constitute the second outstanding category. In both cases we undertake a detailed study of the textiles, backed up by numerous parallels, both national and international, which assist in the cataloguing of the selected pieces.
