Abstract

The adoption of open innovation needs an organizational context that enables the permeability of an organization´s boundaries. This study proposes a theoretical model that links the complemetarity among total quality management practices and open innovation dimensions . We have revised the literature that analizes the relationship between quality and innovation finding a debate among the scientific community. We bring order to the debate by analyzing and systematizing seminal literature and more recent and relevant to the subject in the period from 1988 to 2015. We reviewed scientific articles indexed by JCR Science Edition and JCR Social Sciences Edition. This research has allowed us to find that it is not possible to state with absolute certainty the effect of innovation on quality given the multidimensional nature of quality and innovation. Therefore and considering that there is no literature that addresses the relationship between quality and open innovation, we have proposed a theoretical model that links leadership, human resources management and customer focus to open innovation´s dimensions.
