Abstract
This text pretends to be a theoretical and conceptual approach to the architecture of the masculine as the universal norm in our patriarchal gender system, based on asymmetric and binary power relations (man-woman) and on heteronormativity. The construction and legitimation of the so-called «hegemonic masculinities» in this cultural context will be addressed, as well as the tension caused by the emergence of new models of masculinity that are questioning and putting at risk the features and privileges of the traditional one. To do this, a deep critical reflection will be carried out on the true social impact of the so-called «new emerging masculinities» and their effect (or not) in the dismantling of gender inequalities. Finally, some suggestions for a co-educational approach are proposed for the foundation of civic and egalitarian models of masculinity.
