Abstract

Successful research in lexicography today requires large-scale support in the form of both facilities and staff. Dictionary-making in the 19th century was of course influenced by totally different variables such as collection of linguistic material for lexicographic research. At that time, correspondents were key participants of this kind of projects on the regional lexicography of Spanish. For his Ensayo de un diccionario de andalucismos, the scholar Francisco Rodríguez Marín relied on a number of assistants acting as occasional lexicographers. Antonio García Rodríguez, head doctor in Villanueva de San Juan, Seville, stands out among the latter and wrote a short vocabulary on the variety spoken locally. This paper is about this original text and its edition.
