Abstract

In this paper some theoretical notions of the onto-semiotic approach to mathematical knowledge and instruction (Godino, Contreras, Font, 2006) are applied to analyse a teaching experience of the functional limit to secondary school students. In this theoretical framework the teaching and learning processes are described as a multidimensional stochastic process compose by six sub-processes (epistemic, teaching, learning, mediational, cognitive and emotional), and their trajectories and potential states. In this paper we focus our attention in the epistemic dimension showing some semiotic conflicts and limitations in the institutional implemented meaning.
