Abstract
In this communication, we present a landslide inventory in the mountain front of the Betic Cordilleras in the environs of Jaén city (southern Spain). Here, more than 7% of the surface area is affected by slope movements. The inventory, produced in a GIS environment, shows different types of slope movements such as rock falls, rotational and translational slides, and earth, mud and debris flows. Each typology is associated with specific conditions. Rock falls develop in cliffs underlain by carbonate rocks; slides occur in marl hillslopes with moderate gradient; mud flows and debris flows are characteristic of marl terrains and low slopes. This inventory has been compared with slope instability evidence observed after the last rainy season of winter 2010, revealing the recurrent character of landsliding processes in the area and the predictive utility of the landslide map.
