Abstract

This paper describes the protocol of data acquisition and processing followed by the Sedimentary Reservoir Research Group (SEDREGROUP) of the University of Granada using the Drilling and Sampling Rock Unit of the Scientific Instrumentary Center in order to study outcrop analogs of reservoir rocks. The aim is to contrast information from outcrop and subsurface at different scales. Then you get to the 3D modeling of the coarse-grained geobody embedded in fine sediment. Thus, by analyzing on outcrop facies and architectural elements the different sedimentary sub-environments represented are interpreted and potential permeability barriers and baffles are detected. From this differentiation points to be drilled with continuous core recovery are selected. The detailed description of lithofacies on cores and its contrast with well-logging, combined with the reconstruction of the diagenetic history (paragenetic sequence) and petrophysical parameters (porosity and permeability) achieves comprehensive outcrop / behind outcrop characterization (O/BO). This workflow leads to obtaining numerical models to accurately know the behavior of a sedimentary body as potential fluid reservoir.
