Abstract

This paper reviews Hersey and Blanchard's Situational Leadership Theory (1982). Then,LEAD-Self, a questionnaire by these authors, is administered to 43 managers of the Public Administration in order to get their management styles and effectiveness. Results show the existence of a very homogeneous style, the most relevant features of which being theassumption of control to a great extent, allowing sometimes a greater participation of subor-dinates, and the lack of significant gender differences in their preferred styles and effective-ness. Results also suggest the need to train managers.
