Abstract

Dissolving pulp is a significant cellulose source and can be obtained from the purification of nearly any lignocellulosic material present in nature, removing lignin and hemicelluloses that conform them, either vegetal or tree, or by conversion of paper mills. Viscose fibers (also known as Rayon) is a kind of textile fiber that is obtained from cellulose. Furthermore, the production of viscose is the biggest dissolving pulp consumer in the world. The biggest drawback of this process is, above all, the reactants that are used, especially CS2, that is toxic and flammable; therefore, its use should be reduced. As a result, the objective of this thesis has been to improve the quality of pulp for viscose production, to make it more environmentally friendlier, using either modifying the bleaching process, before the final product, or to add a pre-treatment in the final stage to increase pulp reactivity.
