Abstract

The scout method is known worldwide as a pedagogical format for teaching values and entertainment for children, adolescents and young people. It is included within non-formal pedagogies and, in few occasions, the tools of the method are applied to formal education. In a case study with a qualitative approach, the aim was to reveal the specific and natural characteristics of the method, its application in the field and the impact of both on the citizenship training of children, adolescents and young people who benefit from it.It can be observed, from the research process, that the impact of the method on the population studied presents specific characteristics little described in official documents, some common to the formal education curriculum, others markedly different. Among them, the format that acquires groupality appears as a condition of weight in the scout method. Also, the characteristic of interpersonal links and relationships, the leadership format and role of the adult, the democratization exercises in all areas, represent differentiated aspects that can be recovered as experiences for innovation in formal education in terms of citizenship training.
