Abstract

This article reviews the full spectrum of artistic relations between Niccolò Ludovisi and the Spanish court in light of a new documented shipment of paintings by the magnanimous prince; a shipment that also concerns other well-known works delivered to the Alcázar of Madrid. It provides new data and evidence on the donations made by this Bolognese nobleman that allow resolving some of the remaining questions regarding the many gifts given to Philip IV, and opens new avenues for research.
