Resumen

BSTRACT Teaching and learning of Advanced Algebra for students of the Degree in Computer Engineering, is often carried out by the use of the computer. Aware of this, Algebra professors at the University of Jaén published a practice manual for the Discrete Mathematics course, in which original programs in the software Mathematica are included. For the update of this manual, with respect to the contents, changes will be introduced to improve and optimize the mathematical learning, according to the didactic considerations taken from research carried out within a doctoral thesis project. Relative results have been obtained, both to the personal meanings of the students (analyzing the influence of this software, conflicts and didactic phenomena emerged), as well as to the institutional meaning in university manuals that approach this subject, when teaching and learning takes place in computing environments. On the other hand, results of a survey we conducted with 210 students regarding the technological resources they use and their preferences when studying, revealed the need for more dynamic support materials (websites or channels such as YouTube) to assist learning at university. These ideas were reflected in a teaching innovation project carried out by the University of Jaén, which collected human and technical resources for a new edition of the manual, using audiovisual materials on an accessible and widely disseminated web space, and implementing the conclusions reached in our research into Mathematic Education.
