Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are in their entirety the main cause of death among pregnant women and women in the postpartum phase in industrialized countries, especially when they are congenital. Other causes that can explain it are the increasingly advanced age at which first pregnancy occurs and the increase in cardiovascular risk factors. In these women, the diagnostic methods that can be employed and the interventions that can or should be performed during pregnancy, labor and puerperium must be considered, and known, by the midwife. Hence, a literature review is performed with the aim of presenting an update on pregnancy in women with cardiovascular disease with the available evidence on the modes of action in these cases
